Terps Get Tough Win as Big Dance Tips Off

Buffalo, NY - Maryland made it eight straight first-round
wins in the N-C-A-A tournament with a 82-to-70 victory over
Davidson in Midwest Regional action in Buffalo, New York.
The Terrapins, who are back in the tournament following a
two-year absence, overcame an eight-point second-half deficit and
outscored the upset-minded Wildcats 24-to-11 over the final ten
minutes to advance to the second round for the 20th time in school
history.
Mike Jones scored 17 points and D.J. Strawberry contributed 12
to the winning effort.
Strawberry, son of the former major league slugger, had 12

Freshman guard Stephen Curry scored 30 points for Davidson
(29-5) before fouling out with 21 seconds left. The Wildcats had a
13-game winning streak snapped and also lost for only the second
time in their past 27 outings.
Maryland will bring a 25-and-8 record into its second round
game.
Also from the ACC, Boston College sent Texas Tech and Bobby Knight packing with an 84-75 win.
