After losing to Coastal Carolina in the first game of the series, the Pirates bounced back by winning the first game of the day 7-1, before dropping the second game 7-6. East Carolina had a 6-3 lead heading into the seventh inning in game two but the Chanticleers battled back to score four runs
In game one, a three-run home run by Kaui Tom, captivated a six-run second inning by the Pirates. Paige Baggett led off the inning with her sixth home run of the season. Baggett had a span of twelve games between hitting home runs, but has hit two in her last three games. Starting pitcher Toni Paisley was replaced by Keli Harrell to start the seventh inning. After retiring the first batter of the inning, Coastal Carolina reached base on a single, walk, hit-by-pitch and a double. “I think towards the end of the day we started to get burnt out,” associate head coach Natalie Kozlowski said. “It was our sixth game in four days and it started to wear on us. We need to regroup and get ready for Hofstra before we play in their tournament.”
East Carolina will play a single game against Hofstra on Friday at 3 p.m. before playing in the Hofstra University Invitational from March 17-18.
