Behind a great starting performance from Ryan Morris, Kinston shutout Wilmington 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Delaware. Kinston took three of four games from the Blue Rocks for the K-Tribe’s first four game series win of the season. The Indians shutout Wilmington twice in the four game set; Kinston has now won five of their last eight games.

Ryan Morris (4-8) put forth his best performance of the season, giving up just three hits in a season high seven innings. Morris walked just two batters and tied a season high by striking out seven batters. The Kinston starter retired fourteen in a row at won point and struck out the side in the second inning. Kinston’s David Roberts picked up his first save of the season, throwing two perfect innings to secure the K-Tribes fifth shutout of the season.

Wilmington’s Rowdy Hardy (2-1) was the tough luck loser after a solid start, giving up just six hits and one unearned run in seven innings. Hardy struck out five and did not walk a batter. Kinston scored their only run off of Hardy in the first inning. Lucas Montero led off the game with a double, and then advanced to third on a passed ball by Blue Rocks catcher Ryan Eigsti. After an infield hit by Tim Fedroff, Cord Phelps drove Montero in with an RBI single. Kinston would score another unearned run in the eighth inning off of Wilmington reliever Kelvin Villa, when another passed ball was charged to Eigsti, allowing Adam Davis to score from third base. Davis started the inning with a double, extending his hit streak to nine games. Montero and Ronald Rivas each had two hits for Kinston. The game took just two hours and twelve minutes to complete, the shortest nine inning game of the season for Kinston.

The K-Tribe (5-6 in the second half) will have a scheduled off day on Monday and return to play Tuesday night at Historic Grainger Stadium. The Tuesday game is Jerry Stackhouse Night at the ballpark as the Kinston native and NBA All-Star will be at the game to sign autographs. It is also a two dollar Tuesday featuring two dollar tickets, food items and drinks. Mike McGuire will make the start for Kinston, game time 7pm.
