Eugene, OR - Former East Carolina Pirate LaShawn Merritt easily won the 400 meter National Championship Saturday night in Eugene, OR. Merritt posted a time of 44.50, which was good enough to earn him his second national title.
Merritt won a pair of gold medals in the '08 Beijing Olympics. He attended East Carolina University in 2005, where as a freshman he became the second fastest indoor runner in history in the 400 m at the 2005 Tyson Invitational with a time of 44.93 seconds.
