Sources close to ECU head football coach Skip Holtz tell WITN that Holtz has turned down an offer to become the new head coach at Syracuse.

The deal to coach the Orange is said to be worth a total of nearly $12 million.

WITN will continue to follow this story and affiliates in Memphis are scheduled to attend Thursday's Liberty Bowl press conference in which Skip Holtz will attend.

Sam you don't know much must be the williamston education. First off Miss will never leave the big-12. The big 12 is a superior conf. Also it is rediculas that the state legislates who a school must play. UNC and NC State get nothing for this. ECU gets all the glory if they win and if carolina or state win they get the "you should have won" routine. Tell me where thats fair or if you were carolina or state how you can get up for those games. I suppose you should change the Pac 10s name as well. And what does kentucky basketball have to do with anything you seriously dont think they would leave the powerhouse SEC the biggest moneymaking conf in both sports (outside ACC basketball) come on.

To that so called wolfpack>pirates, name some KEY STATE PLAYERS that were hurt besides Russell Wilson for a few games. As a pirate fan, I do actually hate UNC worse and will congratgulate State for their big win over UNC. I agree with you that ECU should keep playing State and also UNC, why, more money put into the schools and the economy of the eastern half of NC, especially, Greenville, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill. About the conference change, in a few years don't be suprised if Iowa State goes into the Big 10 and joins in with Iowa, or if Missouri goes in, because they and Illinois have had a rival for quite sometime and are looking at getting into the same conference. The Big 10 (which should be the Big 11 cause they have 11 teams) is not going to take anybody out. They have talked over the last decade about trying to get 12 teams which I think they should do. Kentucky is a basketball school. It would do great for the Big 10. The Big 10 typically thrives on basketball & 1 FB rival.

Actually, it was the 92 Peach Bowl( my mistake) and it was a long time ago. But it was a hell of a great game to watch! Anyway, State leads ECU 16-10. ECU has won seven out of the last 12 football games against NC State. Either way, there is nothing like watching a good game between two rival schools. Whoever they may be. Or be it college or NFL.
