New York - The Texas Longhorns are the new number-1 team in
the weekly Associated Press top-25 college football poll. The
'Horns, who were fifth in last week's poll, staked their claim to
the top spot with a 45-35 win over then number-1 Oklahoma
yesterday. Following the Longhorns in the poll is Alabama. The
Crimson Tide received 26 first place votes, compared to 39 for
Texas. Rounding out the top-five spots this week are Penn State,
Oklahoma and Florida. The second-five this week features Southern California, Texas
