93P: Show or quote where I have stated or posted that "the recruiting war is garbage". I don't run my mouth in a bullish way like you do. I research and I post to back-up my arguments. Recruiting is the strongest point of my CFB knowledge. Once more I have never compared ECU to a BCS school. Mr. 93P, Sir I know enough CFB to know a BCS VS a NON BCS school, thank you. So far NOT a single Pirate fan has given a solid explanation if ECU at [least] tried or interviewed Jacksonville, NC Donte Moss the #12 player in the nation according to rivals.com. Here is my challenge to ECU. If you can't recruit 50 or 60 miles away you have a problem. Yes, there is fierce competition at every level. ND has a few California players. Have you ever heard of ND QB John Huarte? He won thew Heisman trophy. Guess what? He went to Mater Dei HS CA as Matt Leinart That should NOT be an excuse as I keep hearing from you 93P. ECU finished ahead of USC back in 1993-1994. How about that for fairness and objectivity?

Posted by: deadfish Location: nc on Oct 7, 2008 at 01:16 AM
93P: Do you know how to read? Show me in any of my posts where did I say the recruiting wars are garbage? I am well educated therefore I don't need your help to put words in my mouth. Regarding recruiting I challenge you or anybody. I know what I'm talking about. Furthermore I did NOT compare ECU NOR any BCS VS NON BCS schools at all. I stand by my argument WHY can't ECU recruit better given their low academic standard? Instead two basketball schools in the state are out recruiting ECU and that is fact. Duke nor UNC are BCS schools. Do you understand that? So don't insult my intelligence about NOT knowing the differences between a BCS school versus a NON BCS one, thank you. USC is a powerhouse BCS school. Your beloved ECU is NOT and will probably NEVER be. Since we're talking recruiting the first thing Pete Carroll when he took over at USC as HC said:"We have to recruit better in our own back yard". He has done that. Chip Davis has done the same thing at UNC. Look at rivals.com. Do u?

Dead: How do you say the recruiting war is garbage. Have you ever compared the BCS School recruiting stars to the non-BCS schools. Go do that then come back here and eat your crow. Know what you are talking about before you spout.

Posted by: deadfish Location: nc on Oct 2, 2008 at 08:44 AM
93P: With ALL due respect you are making excuses for ECU. ECU recruiting should be better. Duke is rated #34 and ECU #71 for the 2009. Keep in mind that Duke is rated #8 academically in the nation meaning it is tougher to get admission to Duke VS ECU. You are facing Virginia next Saturday. Duke beat Virginia last Saturday. Given that trend ECU will NOT beat Duke in a couple of years. Duke is recruiting in the same area as ECU is. That BCS political rhetoric that you were referring to is just that hot air verbiage with all due respect. Furthermore it is irrelevant. Thank you

Posted by: 93P Location: Greenville on Oct 1, 2008 at 03:28 PM
Dead,i haven't seen anyone on here declare the Pirates could go to the NC. What's ur point? Fact is it is tough to recruit outside the BCS because every player is hoping for that outside chance to make it. Stars don't mean squat if you can coach them up. Just take a look at State and UNC. I never expected to be a contender for a BCS game because of the system. Maybe you are refering to some dilusional fans but most are realistic enough to know the odds of playing quality football week end and week out is very difficult. Fact is the BCS is a BS political money making scheme and until it goes bust or until we make it into a BCS league we will likely not land the type of recruit you're talking about in J-ville. If there were a BCS in college baseball Fresno State would have never had the opportunity to win the college world series. Prime example of how delusional the whole system is. The pirates will keep winning if Skip comes up with a secondary offensive game plan.

Posted by: Dave Location: Greenville on Oct 1, 2008 at 11:15 AM
I heard from a very reliable source that the offensive and defensive players of ECU were fighting at halftime and at the end of the game. This team got too big headed and seems as though they are on the brink of falling apart.

Posted by: BigT Location: greenville on Oct 1, 2008 at 11:01 AM
Thanks Dave, I know what you mean. And although ecu's recruiting has improved it still has a long way to go before we can field a team that can CONSISTENTLY compete with the bigger boys. If ECU boosters wanted to have undefeated seasons every year should have stayed in CAA. With they team they have now they could dominate there. I am a Pirate fan but not an idiot. I do know you can't make chicken salad if all you have is chicken poop. I had hoped for lengthy run in top 25 but will be happy with any bowl appearance at this point. Either way I will be there rooting them on. Ecu's largest problem to me is the lake of depth on the team and the abundance of shallowness of the boosters. Facts that the coaches and players have to deal with and do the best they can with. Given these facts, and the injuries they deal with I think Skip and the team do a heck of a job. Go Pirates!

Posted by: Dave Location: Greenville on Oct 1, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Big T I've said before that you are one of the GOOD Pirate fans. You seem to be the only person who I have encontered on here that actually gets it! MOST Pirate fans have Delusions of Grandeur and they can't see the forest for the trees.

Posted by: Big T Location: greenville on Oct 1, 2008 at 08:50 AM
Deadfish and Dave, I would love to see USC and Penn State in the Rose Bowl and watch you guys at each other's throats instead of bashing the Pirates. Not all pirate fans are idiots, and frankly I don't appreciate being lumped in the group. Fish is more of a realist and is quite knowledgeable when it comes to NCAA football. However, Dave, you just like to badmouth but, per your very own comment on 9/30 9:32pm; I noticed you stated-"I will be watching ECU....", I was in shock. I do thouroughly enjoy the banter. And yes, fish, I do want to know why ECU didn't recruit Donte Moss. There have also been other outstanding, maybe not nationally ranked, but outstanding that we have failed at attempting to land. Right here in our own back yard. I wish I could badmouth Dave's team but I cannot, I am a huge Paterno fan. I've hated USC ever since they let McKay get away. So in a Penn St - USC Rose Bowl? GO NITTANY LIONS! Maybe that will give dave a happy face.

Posted by: Dave Location: Greenville on Sep 30, 2008 at 09:32 PM
I never said PSU would go undefeated and am sticking to my 10-2 prediction. 10-2 will be good enough to win the Big Ten and a Rose Bowl appearance. However, I will be watching ECU play some team like Western Kentucky in the Little Debbie Snack Cakes Bowl.

Posted by: deadfish Location: nc on Sep 30, 2008 at 03:51 PM
93Pirate: You are absolutely correct USC got punched in the mouth against OR ST. They will be back and go to the Rose Bowl. With some luck they might make it to the NC. They got the talent to do it despite injuries. Your Pirates can NOT do that and your loss to Houston is evident. May I remind you that your Pirates got spanked in your own house, OK? "Geesh!" borrowing your smirk remark, OK? Hey Denver lost to KC the worst team in the NFL. It is called FB 93P, OK? "Geesh!"... 93P instead of blasting us why don't you question Skip Holtz and ask him WHY couldn't ECU recruit Donte Moss the number 12 player in the nation according to rivals.com? 93P Donte Moss is from Jacksonville, NC. Isn't that a little less than an hour drive? BTW I was stationed at Camp LeJeune! Ouch! Thank you

Posted by: 93Pirate Location: Greenville on Sep 30, 2008 at 02:09 PM
Why do i think deadfish and dave are as close to USC and Penn State campuses as they've ever been. In their arm chairs. Nobody cares about either of these two schools and the way your cockiness spews all over the board. USC laid the egg against Oregon State, soon it will be Penns turn. Maybe you'll shut your pie hole. Geesh!

Posted by: The Pirate Lady Location: Grimesland on Sep 29, 2008 at 04:00 PM
Hey 'fish, yeah I checked out rivals.com last week sometime, I was just curious to see who had committed, and I believe the highest ranking I saw was maybe a 3 or 4 star. I did see the one you mentioned; I wonder if ECU spoke to him too. I know we try to recruit a lot of the same guys that State ends up with, so it's possible we did speak to him, but UNC being the name brand, he went with them. We're not going to build our program until we can start getting some top recruits, but we have to start pulling out good seasons first. We're in a catch 22.

Posted by: Big T Location: greenville on Sep 29, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Correction of my previous statement: I meant to say I knew USC "wouldn't" go below 10. And Dave if ECU loses to Virginia, I might see if I can get me one of those old New Orleans "Aints" bags. I'll retire my ECU attire for the season! I'm pretty sure that JH Rose could beat Virginia.

Posted by: Brian Location: G'vegas on Sep 29, 2008 at 10:58 AM
Dave: Not really. Virginia isn't a conference game so it doesn't really matter if we win or not. However, it could destroy what little confidence they still have left.

Posted by: deadfish Location: nc on Sep 29, 2008 at 10:25 AM
The Pirate Lady: Officially crowned The Lady Pirate! Good morning! I have been for the last hour messing around rivals.com and ECU dropped to #71 while Duke dropped to #34 regarding the 2009 class. I incorrectly reported USC about 300 points behind OSU for the 2009 recruiting class lead. It is 94 which means the chances of USC having the top recruiting class in 2009 are very good. I posted before ECU difficulty/failure in landing nearby NC area HS prospects. Donte Moss a five star DE from Jacksonville North Side HS committed to UNC. I must also point out that Moss is the #12 player in the nation according to: http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?ra_key=1936 Having said that maybe someone one asks Mr. Skip Holtz if any attempt was made to at least talk to that young man. Your defense can certainly use him! Good day!

Posted by: Dave Location: Greenville on Sep 29, 2008 at 10:24 AM
Needless to say if ECU loses to Virginia, the season in Greenville is OVER.

Posted by: Brian Location: G'vegas on Sep 29, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Funny thing about this is that we were in the Gold lot tailgating a bit after the game, and a player walks by on the phone. This was his conversation "Yeah, our offense is horrible, those guys let the rankings go to their head and haven't done anything since." That was pretty much spot on with how things have gone, not to mention that our offense has become predictable and limited. Our QB can't throw deep. It's really that simple. Teams have scouted it out and now are playing the line tight and daring us to throw deep. He simply can't do it. Time to put in Kass, open the offense up and fire our offensive coordinator.

Posted by: Big T Location: greenville on Sep 29, 2008 at 09:32 AM
C'mon Dave, and deadfish, I told you your trojans would go below 10. Everyone knows that Oregon has enjoyed some success against USC since way back. I am sure that is taken in to account. And Dave, your PS boys looked good. I am a huge Paterno Fan...but, watching him on the sideline is like watching A Weekend at Bernie's. I wonder if he has been "taxidermed" and just stands there. Really, he is on my most respected coaches list. Up there with Bear Bryant, Woody Hayes, and even NFL's Bud Grant. As far as ECU goes, my pirates have got to work on depth issues. We need to be in a position where when losing one or two players doesn't put us in neutral or even reverse. BTW, I enjoy the friendy "feuding" as well. I'd rather post with deadfish than watch the talking heads on ESPN. Dave, you are just a bit negative, but, entertaining. Go Pirates? and...Thank God for a bye, maybe we can get some pirates "healed up".

Since you were so nice about it, DF, I will change to TPL. I won't deny that I am worried about the outcome of the season; 7-5 is a very likely possibility. We're in a must win situation now, and we have to win the rest of our conference games, especially in our division, if we even want a chance at the championship. What's helping us now is that all the teams in our division are playing poorly against the West (the UTEP game against UCF was a good one!). We'll just have to wait and see how things progress. We still have plenty of season left to play, but Skip and crew have a lot of work to do.

Posted by: Dave Location: Greenville on Sep 29, 2008 at 08:50 AM
You know, I really wouldn't call ECU's top 25 appearance a run, it was more of a slow walk since it was only for 3 weeks.

Posted by: deadfish Location: nc on Sep 28, 2008 at 10:09 PM
Hi The Pirate Lady: There isn't any reason why you should be afraid to post. Even though you're a Pirate fan you're a jewel to deal with. I really enjoy exchanging views with you. Please change your name to The Pirate Lady(TPL). You have really earned our respect with your ladylike demeanor. I also compliment your writing characterized by good sentence construction and impeccable grammar. Maybe you can be Ty and Native Pirate their English teacher. TPL ECU will finish 7-5 at best therefore the LB will be out of the question. IF USC doesn't make it to the NC I am confident they'll make it to the Rose Bowl. Don't be surprised it is against Dave's PSU. At the top shelf of my computer's desk I have two mini helmets. On the far left the 49ers and on the far right the USC Trojans. Back in 1992(?) when ECU went to the Peach Bowl USC I believe didn't make it to a bowl. Then in 1993 USC got defeated by Mack Brown's UNC Tar Heels! Those early 90's were not USC's best. Take care!

Posted by: Dave Location: Greenville on Sep 28, 2008 at 09:09 PM
OF COURSE I will stay loyal smb=pg. PSU still has a few tough games this season but I will take the 5-0 record and the #6 ranking at this point.

Posted by: smb=pirate girl Location: Grimesland aka Pirate Nation on Sep 28, 2008 at 08:27 PM
I'm right here, I'm not afraid to post! I just got online and saw this article. Personally, I'm glad that our ride in the 25 is over; maybe this is just what ECU needs to get focused and try to pull out a good season and hopefully make it to the Liberty Bowl. I just wonder if your teams, Dave and DF, don't make it to a good bowl game, will you still stay loyal. Because I will always be loyal to the Pirates! GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Still Pulling for the Pirates! Location: Winterville on Sep 28, 2008 at 07:33 PM
Okay, it was, yet ANOTHER disappointing game, but I'm still and ALWAYS WILL BE a PROUD PIRATE!!! True fans don't forsake their team during difficult times.

Posted by: Dave Location: Greenville on Sep 28, 2008 at 06:29 PM
USC vs. PSU would be an AWESOME Rose Bowl game deadfish. ECU will probably play in the Sheer Elegance Panyhose Bowl in mid December against some team like Weber State LOL!!

Posted by: deadfish Location: nc on Sep 28, 2008 at 05:17 PM
Dave: USC VS PSU in the Rose Bowl, that would be a good game. ECU will be in some ding-dong popcorn bowl if they are lucky, OUCH! Barry and the usual suspects where are you? Is Barry and the usual suspects a new musical group? They might play Heartbreak Hotel or Good Luck Charm!
