Panthers Trim Roster To 53 Man Limit

CHARLOTTE -- Tough choices were in abundance as the Panthers trimmed their roster from 75 players down to 53 as the league-mandated roster deadline arrived Saturday.

The 22 players released included five vested veterans acquired in various forms of free agency during the offseason, including led safety Terrence Holt, cornerback Ricardo Colclough, running back LaBrandon Toefield and guards Toniu Fonoti and Milford Brown. Wide receivers Samie Parker -- who had just signed with the Panthers on Tuesday -- and Travis Taylor were the other two vested veterans let go Saturday.

Fifteen other players were waived -- quarterback Brett Basanez, running back Decori Birmingham, wide receivers Chris Hannon and Will Buchanon, tight end Chad Upshaw, fullback Troy Fleming, guards Rueben Riley and Evan Mathis, offensive tackle Geoff Schwartz, linebacker Tim Shaw, cornerback Darren Toney, safety Joe Fields, defensive linemen Nick Hayden and Stephen Williams and Stanley McClover.
