Merritt Qualifies For 400 Meter Finals In Beijing, Cotto Eliminated In Hurdles

Beijing - Defending champion Jeremy Wariner and U.S. Trials winner LaShawn Merritt easily won their heats to qualify for what should be a great duel in Thursday's final. Merritt, the former ECU Pirate sprinter, posted the fastest overall time.

Another former Pirate, Hector Cotto of Peurto Rico was eliminated in the 110 meter hurdles.

Top 2 from each heat, plus the next 2 fastest times qualify for the final.
