Greenville Whips Host Jamestown In World Series Opener

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Stephen Becker pounded out three hits, including two doubles while also picking up the win on the hill to lead the Southeast Region (Greenville, N.C.) past the Host Team (Jamestown, N.Y.) 10-2 in an American Division pool play contest at Diethrick Park in Jamestown on Saturday evening.

Becker went 3-for-3 with four RBI and was also the winning pitcher, going five innings, giving up only one run and striking out four. Teammate Thomas Conlin had a 2-for-4 night with three RBI.

Jamestown scored its first run in the fifth inning when Jacob Gullo singled to right field, plating Conner Anderson.

The Host Team scored again in the second when Gullo doubled in David Morse.

Gullo finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Bram Johnson, the starting pitcher for the Host Team, took the loss on the mound but struck out five batters in 3.2 innings.

The Southeast team will next play the Pacific Southwest on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The Host Team will next play Midwest Plains on Sunday night at 8 p.m.
