Former Olympian Recalls The Thrill Of The Games

By  |

The Olympics in Beijing are packed with excitement this summer. And there is one former Olympian living right here in eastern Carolina who has been paying close attention to the games.

Bill Kund is a former Olympian. At 18 years-old he qualified in the kilometer competition for cycling. He won a spot on the USA team during the '64 Olympic games in Tokyo but didn't win a medal.

Bill now resides in Washington. He says he wasn't always very athletic as a child, but once he started cycling, natural talent was obvious. In 1965 he won the national title and broke a record that lasted a decade. The Olympic experience is something he will never forget.

Kund was born in Austria. Now he is an advertising photographer and he enjoys sailing on his sail boat with his wife.
