GREENVILLE, N.C. - After wrapping up a two-a-day schedule with a late-night session in full pads Monday, East Carolina Head Coach Skip Holtz and staff lessened the gear but emphasized a heavy dose of team work during a two-hour, shells-only practice on Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex Tuesday night.
The Pirates finished their 13th practice of preseason camp, and in addition, began preparations in earnest for Saturday's pivotal intra-squad scrimmage.
"We weren't as emotional as we perhaps needed to be out there tonight, but I thought we still came out and worked hard," Holtz said. "After a physical practice last night and guys moving out of the dorm earlier today, things appeared a little quiet and reserved. Plus, we're at the point in camp where the excitement of starting is long gone and the light at the end of the tunnel isn't quite visible yet."
East Carolina continued to stress team-on-team work and spent the majority of Tuesday's session emphasizing situational drills such as down-and-distance and redzone efficiency.
After evaluating Saturday's scrimmage on tape and making additional personnel adjustments, Holtz and his staff will look forward to implementing schematics and a game plan for Virginia Tech early next week.
