WEDDINGTON - Northwest Forsyth used a potent offensive attack which included 5 home runs to defeat a feisty North State squad 13-8. After 1 inning Northwest had a 2-0 advantage. North State got on the board in the bottom of the second. With one out Ashley Weingartz, Josh Walston, and Connor Barton hit singles loading the bases. Ashley scored when the catcher mishandled the throw to the plate on a fielder's choice. Frankie Williamson then drew a bases loaded walk scoring Josh. Cameron Rees then singled scoring Connor and Higley giving North State a 4-2 advantage after 2 complete.
Northwest hit a 2 run homer to tie the game in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third Jordan Bryant lead off by reaching on an error. Ashley Weingartz then drew a walk. Josh Walston then singled to left scoring Jordan but Ashley was put out after rounding second too far. Connor Barton then hit a hard grounder to the second baseman which Northwest turned into a spectacular 4-6-3 double play. After 3 innings North State held a 5-4 advantage.
Northwest then hit a solo homer in the fourth knotting the game at 5. Remigio Devente then led off the bottom of the fourth with a sharp single. Frankie reached first by hitting into a fielder's choice. He then went to second when the catcher tried to pick him off and threw the ball away. Blake Rogers followed with a hard hit single then Addison Taylor drove Frankie in with another hit. Jordan Bryant was then robbed of a hit by the Northwest right fielder who made a diving catch which saved at least 2 runs.
Northwest tied the game at 6 in the top of the fifth while North State failed to score in their half of the fifth. Northwest then exploded for 7 runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
North State fought back with 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn't enough as Northwest took the victory. Northwest finished with 13 runs,10 hits 2 errors, and left 8 runners on base. North State had 8 runs, 12 hits, 4 errors and left 7 runners on base.
North State is now scheduled to play against an opponent to be determined on Wednesday night at 6:00 in Weddington.
