France's Dessel Wins 16th Stage, Schleck Still Leading

French rider Cyril Dessel has won today's stage of the Tour de France with Frank Schleck of Luxembourg retaining the yellow jersey as the overall leader.

The 16th stage saw the pack returning from Italy across two huge Alpine climbs.

Dessel won his first Tour stage by leading a breakaway group of four riders to a downhill finish after a 97.6-mile trek.

Schleck finished 1 minute, 28 seconds after Dessel, but didn't lose any time to his main title rivals. Bernhard Kohl of Austria is second overall, trailing by seven seconds. Cadel Evans of Australia is third, eight seconds off the pace.

American rider Christian Vande Velde lost even more ground in the title hunt. He's fallen to sixth place and is 3:15 behind. He started the ride 39 seconds behind Schleck in fifth.
