Harrington Defends British Open Title, Norman Slips To 3rd

Padraig Harrington has
successfully defended his British Open title. He locked it up with
an eagle on the 17th hole en route to a final-round 1-under-par 69
on another windy day at Royal Birkdale. The Irishman finished two
strokes ahead of runner-up Ian Poulter. The Englishman began the
day six shots off the pace before carding 1-under-par 69 to get to
plus-7.
Australia's Greg Norman started play with a two-shot lead in his
valiant attempt at a third Open title. But the 53-year-old,
part-time golfer bogeyed his opening three holes and signed for a
7-over 77. He finished 9-over and tied for third with Sweden's
Henrik Stenson, who shot a 71, and South Korea's K.J. Choi, who had
a 75.
