New information about former J.H. Rose football player Max Joyner, who signed to play with the ECU Pirates, and now faces an assault charge.
This apparently is not the only charge he faces.
A check of the North Carolina Court System calendar shows a total of eight misdemeanor charges against Joyner. The latest is the assault inflicting serious injury from Wednesday. The others include assault,, assault on a government official, intoxicated and disruptive, consuming alcohol underage, resisting a public officer, another assault on a government official, and another resisting a public officer.
Joyner, the son of Greenville city councilman Max Joyner Junior, was arrested early Wednesday morning in Greenville and charged with the assault inflicting serious injury. The court calendar doesn't say what the other charges stem from.

A former Rose High School football player signed to East Carolina University in Greenville is facing an assault charge.
Reports show linebacker Max Joyner was arrested early Wednesday morning in Greenville and charged with assault inflicting serious injury. That is a misdemeanor charge.
Joyner was held at the Pitt County detention center on $1,000 secured bond.
Joyner was expected to officially join the East Carolina Football program on August first when all players are scheduled to report to campus for the beginning of fall drills.
ECU head football coach Skip Holtz released a statement through the ECU sports information department stating "at this point, Max Joyner has been suspended from the program indefinitely for violation of team rules."

Coach Skip Holtz Announces Disciplinary Action Because Of A
Violation Of Team Rules
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman linebacker Max Joyner has
been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules according to
an announcement from head football coach Skip Holtz Thursday
afternoon.
Joyner, who enrolled at ECU at the start of Summer Session II on June
25, officially signed with Holtz' program last February after a
successful local prep career at J.H. Rose High School. He was listed
among the 105 players scheduled to report for the opening of the
Pirates' preseason camp on August 1 prior to the disciplinary action.
"At this point, Max Joyner has been suspended indefinitely from the
football program for a violation of team rules," Holtz said. The fourth-year ECU head coach did not address specifics of the suspension but
indicated that the matter would be re-evaluated at a later time.
Joyner earned two varsity letters and was a part of three 4-A state
championship squads at J.H. Rose. He recorded seven interceptions
primarily as a defensive back for a 16-0 Rampants team as a junior and
was chosen to the all-county and all-conference squads before picking
off two additional passes as a senior in 2007.
