Winterville Machine Works and East Carolina Auto battled it out Thursday night in Greenville's 14-15 year-old Babe Ruth Championship.
In the 39-year history of Greenville's Babe Ruth League, no team has ever pulled off an undefeated season. East Carolina Auto, coached by Paul and Jonathan Powers, was challenged many times during the season but made it to the championship game with an 18-0 record.
Winterville, fresh off a big over Ward's in the semi-finals, struck first as Zach Holton led off the bottom of the first with a double and then later scored.
EC Auto pitcher Tyler Clifton quickly settled down and allowed only three hits over five innings.
East Carolina came alive in the second inning, scoring three and then never relinquished the lead. EC's 11 hit attack was led by Hunter Wilson, Tim Breiner and Eric Mossman with two hits each. Breiner and Mossman each crossed the plate three times for EC Auto.
Final score was EC Auto over Winterville 17-3 as Greenville's purple gang wrapped up the season with a perfect 19-0 record.
