2013 ECU Football Home Game Designations Announced

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina's contest against defending Conference USA champion Tulsa on Nov. 9 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium has been selected as the Pirates' 2013 Homecoming tilt according to a release of football game-day designations Thursday.

The matchup against the Golden Hurricane will also serve as Hall of Fame and Letterwinners Weekend and represent the first meeting between the two programs since Justin Jones' reception of a Hail Mary pass in the endzone with no time remaining gave ECU a 51-49 victory in 2010.

East Carolina will kick off the campaign Aug. 31 when it lines up against Old Dominion to highlight Pirate Club Weekend activities. Five days later, the Pirates will open C-USA play by welcoming new member Florida Atlantic as part of a Thursday night Gold Rush promotion where all fans are encouraged to wear gold attire.

Virginia Tech will make its third Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium appearance in the last five years on Sept. 14 for Family Weekend to close out a season-opening three-game homestand. The contest against the Hokies will also be played in a Purple Haze, ECU's second color-oriented apparel appeal for fans to participate in.

After a four weeks and three road battles at North Carolina, Middle Tennessee and Tulane, East Carolina will return home for its popular Military Appreciation Day by hosting long-time rival Southern Miss on Oct. 19. The final C-USA clash between the Golden Eagles and Pirates also serves as the start of the regular season's second half and features two schools that share a 38-game series dating back to 1951.

Following Homecoming festivities against Tulsa, ECU will close out its home schedule by facing league divisional foe UAB and observe Senior Day on Nov. 16.

The 2013 season will mark the 50th anniversary of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, which opened its gates for the first time on Sept. 21, 1963 and 17,000 fans filed in to watch the Pirates defeat Wake Forest 20-10. A full schedule of promotions and activities will be featured throughout the fall and announced early this summer.

Game times will be released at a later date after all television scheduling needs have been determined.
