Hurricanes Extend Lease Until 2025

The partnership that owns the RBC Center in Raleigh says it has extended a lease with the Carolina Hurricanes that will keep the team in the arena through 2025.

Hurricanes General Manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement the five-year extension announced Friday demonstrates the confidence the team has in hockey's future in Raleigh.

The authority that owns the RBC Center said also said Friday it had agreed to financial provisions to help the arena management contractor pay for rising operating costs, including terrorism insurance.

The authority also said North Carolina State, which uses the arena for basketball games, had negotiated upgrades to the basketball facilities and parking lot. The school will also have more input on future improvements.
