K-Tribe’s Jim Deters Is Carolina League Pitcher of the Week

Kinston pitcher Jim Deters is the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week after throwing a nine inning, complete game shutout on Thursday at Wilmington. Deters, making a spot start, threw 87 pitches, giving up three hits, no walks and striking out three. It was the first nine inning, complete game shutout for the K-Tribe since Keith Ramsey threw a perfect game on the final day of the season at Myrtle Beach in 2004.

Deters is 3-2 with a 3.20 ERA this season in 17 appearances (three starts). Last season, Deters won 12 games for the K-Tribe and posted a Carolina League Leading 2.24 ERA.

Deters is the first K-Tribe pitcher this season to receive Pitcher of the Week Honors. Kinston outfielder Cirilo Cumberbatch is the only other K-Triber to receive a weekly award; he was the Carolina League Player of the Week for May 19th – 25th.

The K-Tribe is on the road this week for the final seven games of the first half of the season. Kinston returns to Grainger Stadium June 17th – 22nd.
