David Adams singled home David Coleman in the 11th inning as Virginia beat North Carolina 8-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament Wednesday morning.
North Carolina was ranked first in the country in three of the four major college baseball polls. But the Tar Heels were only the Number 3 seed in the tournament in Jacksonville.
North Carolina led 4-3 going into the ninth inning. ACC save leader Michael Schwimer blew a save opportunity in the ninth, but got the win to improve to 3-1 for the Cavaliers.
Under the divisional round-robin format, Virginia will play Florida State on Friday at 5 p.m. North Carolina will face Wake Forest at 8 p.m. Florida State beat Wake Forest 8-3 yesterday in the other Division B game.
