ECU Track And Field Completes Chick-Fil-A Invitational

The East Carolina indoor track and field teams competed in the 2008 Carolina Chick-Fil-A Invitational this past weekend on the campus of the University of North Carolina. Overall, the Pirates recorded 21 top 10 finishes, including seven top fives.

Chris Richardson came in 6th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.87. Jarrett Newby’s time of 1:53.70 was good enough for 4th place in the 800 meter run. Kris Bell, who qualified for the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.33, finished 7th in the finals with a time of 8.26. The 4x400 relay squad earned 6th place honors with a time of 3:25.8, while the distance medley team also came in 6th, with a time of 11:19.53. Finally, in the field events, Ahmad Garrison came in 5th in the shot put (13.30m) and 8th in the weight throw invitational (14.64m)

On the women's side, Chalonda Silver, who qualified for the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.78, turned in a 10th place finish with a time of 7.80 in the finals. Claire Macaulay’s time of 5:14.95 was good enough for 8th place in the mile run. Brittany Copeland and Nicole Briggs each turned in top five finishes in the 3000 meter run, as Copeland finished 2nd (10:16.28) and Briggs came in 4th (10:30.84).The 4x400 meter relay squad took home 2nd place honors with a time of 4:00.22 while the distance medley team came in 4th with a time of 13:00.34. In the high jump, Valeria Moore (7th, 1.63) and Meghan Horne (8th, 1.58) had top ten finishes. Amy Hart’s mark of 3.40m in the pole vault earned her 7th place honors. The duo of Amy Mueller and Danielle Eiler once again had success in the shot put, with Mueller bringing home 5th place honors (12.72m) and Eiler right behind her in 6th (12.51m). Charlene Grady’s mark of 15.23 earned her 7th in the weight throw invitational while Donisha Brown’s mark of 12.30m was good for 9th in the weight throw.

The men’s and women’s teams will split time between North Carolina and Virginia Tech this coming weekend.
