Mount Olive moved into sole possession of No. 2 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 30 and held at No. 2 for the second straight week in the Ping Baseball Division II Top 30. The No. 2 national ranking is the highest in school history in any Trojan sport.
Mount Olive (12-1) posted a 6-0 record last week and extended its winning streak to 10. The Trojans swept a doubleheader at Wingate and took a four-game series from Shippensburg, the final two games by shutout. Mount Olive surrendered only 10 runs in the six games and did not allow more than three runs in any one game.
Defending national champion Tampa (Fla.) holds at No. 1 in both polls, while Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) is No. 3 in both polls. Mount received 464 points in the poll to gain eight points on top-ranked Tampa, which again received the maximum 480 points. The Trojans are one of four South Atlantic Region teams in the Collegiate Baseball Top 10 and the highest ranked of seven regional teams, including fellow Conference Carolinas member Erskine, which debuted at No. 29.
Mount Olive returns to action Thursday as the Trojans play host to Shaw in a non-conference match-up. Game time is 2:30 p.m. at Scarborough Field. The Trojans open Conference Carolinas play this weekend with a three-game series at St. Andrews.
