The green flag drops on the Great
American Race later this hour.
It's the 50th running of the Daytona 500 and two-time defending
Cup champion Jimmie Johnson starts from the pole.
Johnson kicks off the Sprint Cup season trying to become only
the second driver to win three straight NASCAR titles. He'll be
joined on the front row by Michael Waltrip in a Joe Gibbs Racing
Johnson's new Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr.
starts from the inside of row two in his No. 88 Chevy. Denny
Hamlin, also in a Toyota, starts from the fourth slot.
With Jeff Gordon and Casey Mears, four Hendrick Motorsports cars
start in the top nine.
Tony Stewart starts from the sixth position and makes his tenth
try at his first Daytona 500 win. Stewart won yesterday's
Nationwide Series race.
