Carolina Holds Off Bruins In Beantown

Andrew Ladd scored twice in the first 6 1/2
minutes and the Carolina Hurricanes held off Boston 3-2. Shawn
Thornton had two goals in a 27-second span late in the third period
to get the Bruins close.
Ex-Bruin Sergei Samsonov had a goal and an assist to help the
Hurricanes open a 3-0 lead.
Cam Ward protected the shutout until Thornton scored with 5:10
left in the game. Thornton knocked in a rebound 27 seconds later.
Boston made a furious charge in the last four minutes, pulling
goalie Alex Auld but failed to get the game-tying goal.
