ECU Track And Field Enjoys Success On The Road

The East Carolina men’s and women’s indoor track teams completed their best meet of the season over the weekend as they participated in the Captain’s Invitational on the campus of Christopher Newport University. In all, ECU won six events this weekend.

Valeria Moore got things started for the ladies with a victory in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m. Lindsay Dolan came in 3rd with a mark of 1.55m, while Meghan Horne was 5th with a mark of 1.50m. In the pole vault, Stephanie McDougal’s mark of 3.45m earned her 2nd place. Camelia Morman added to the ECU victories with her 1st place finish in the long jump (5.71m). Tanisha Glover also brought home a top ten finish, coming in 9th with a mark of 5.14m. Tori Jones and Naomi Lewis finished in the top ten in the triple jump, coming in 5th (10.21m) and 7th (9.79m), respectively. Amy Mueller’s mark of 13.54m in the shot put gave ECU their third 1st place finish. Danielle Eiler came in 4th with a mark of 12.57m. Charlene Grady won the weight throw with a mark of 15.34m, while Amy Mueller came in 3rd (13.76m) and Donisha Brown was 4th (12.91m). ECU placed four in the top ten of the 60 meter hurdles. Lanaire Lindo’s time of 8.82 was good enough for 3rd, while Dolan finished 5th (9.13), Tara Bright was 8th (9.51) and Jaslyn Grullon was 9th (9.54). Glover came in 2nd in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.83. The 4x200 team finished 4th with a time of 1:51.13, while the ‘A’ team finished 3rd in the 4x400 relay. Aisha Bilal-Mack (5th, 1:40.48), Ericka Charles (6th, 1:41.51), and Samantha Lichtner (8th, 1:44.65) all finished in the top ten in the 600 meter run. Shalice Anderson’s time of 58.48 earned her 2nd place honors in the 400 meter dash. Chalonda Silver finished 5th with a time of 1:01.51. Bilal-Mack’s time of 2:33.08 earned her 6th place honors in the 800 meter run. Glover brought home her third top ten finish of the weekend, coming in 4th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.34.

Kevin Thompson took home the only men’s individual victory, taking home 1st place honors in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.96. David Rucker’s time of 7.13 was good enough for 6th. The 4x200 ‘B’ squad took the win with a time of 1:32.42, while the ‘A’ team was 5th (1:34.19) and the ‘C’ team was 8th (1:36.69). The 4x400 ‘A’ team came in 4th (3:26.92) while the ‘B’ team finished 5th (3:26.94). Michael McGilvary came in 4th in the triple jump with his mark of 13.26m. In the shot put, Linval Joseph took home 3rd place honors with a mark of 14.96m. Both Ahmad Garrison and Daniel Varela finished in the top ten in the weight throw, coming in 4th (13.84m) and 9th (12.22m) respectively. A.J. Malicdem came in 5th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.46 while Mario Brisco’s time of 8.48 earned him 6th. LePatrick Currie (3rd, 51.41), Michael Harris (6th, 51.54) and Corin Lindsay (8th, 51.70) finished in the top ten in the 400 meter dash. Michael Barnett came in 5th in the 800 meter run (2:03.39).

“We are three meets into the indoor season and I could not more pleased with the progress that both teams have made from week to week,” head coach Curt Kraft said. “We still have a long ways to go before the Conference USA Indoor Championships, but if both teams continue to improve and work hard I believe that good things will come our way.”
