Top-ranked North Carolina has been toppled from its perch.
Bambale Osby scored inside with 21 seconds left to help Maryland
stun top-ranked North Carolina 82-80, handing the Tar Heels their
first loss of the season.
James Gist finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds for the
Terrapins, who blew an 11-point lead midway through the second half
but still held on to win in Chapel Hill for the first time since
2003.
Tyler Hansbrough had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Tar
Heels, who had several chances in the final seconds to answer
Osby's basket. But after Wayne Ellington missed a 3-pointer and a
driving shot, North Carolina could only watch as Hansbrough's last
gasp 3-pointer bounced off the rim as the horn sounded.
