Baseball's average salary rose 4.6 percent last year to a record 2.82 million dollars. The New York Yankees were the highest-payroll team for the ninth straight year with 7.47 million-dollar average.
Final figures released by the Major League Baseball Players Association indicate the average salary appears on track to break the 3 million-dollar barrier this season.
Boston, which won the World Series for the second time in four seasons, was a distant second at 5.46 million, followed by the New
York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Seattle.
At the bottom were Tampa Bay, Washington and Florida.
