Hurricanes Fall On The Road

Toronto won a battle of struggling teams, ending a five-game losing streak with a 5-4 triumph over Carolina.

Ian White had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who won in regulation for only the third time in 14 games. Alexei Ponikarovsky and White scored 3:14 apart in the third period to put the Leafs ahead 5-3.

The Hurricanes erased three one-goal deficits before losing their third in a row.

Tomas Kaberle, Chad Kilger and Matt Stajan scored second-period
goals for the Leafs. Jason Blake had two assists and Vesa Toskala made 21 saves for Toronto.

Hurricanes forward Sergei Samsonov had a goal and two assists.
