Elias snapped a 1-1 tie with his 10th goal of the season, beating Cam Ward late in the second period. Elias has four goals in seven games after netting just six in his first 32 contests.

Third-period goals by Brian Gionta and Sergei Brylin sealed the victory.

Travis Zajac had a goal and an assist as the Devils won for the seventh time in nine games. Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise each had two assists.

Brodeur blanked the Hurricanes after Keith Aucoin scored his first NHL goal at 2:41 of the second period.
