Plymouth Holds Off North Duplin For 1-A Crown

Raleigh - Angelo Sharpless caught two first-half
touchdown passes to lead Plymouth past North Duplin 20-13 for the
state 1-A football championship.
Sharpless also intercepted two passes as the unbeatn Vikings won
their 16th game. They held off a second-half rally by the
fifth-ranked Rebels to capture their first state title.
Quarterback Dasheen Perry went 5-for-5 for 131 yards.
North Duplin got back in the game with a pair of third-quarter
touchdowns. Alan Schilling recovered a blocked punt in the end zone
with 8 minutes left for the Rebels' first score. Another short punt
set up a drive capped by Billy Mello's two-yard run with 2:20
remaining.
But Plymouth's defense forced a three-and-out on the first
possession, and Kelly Chesson came up with an interception on the
next series.
