Pirates Host 17th Ranked Clemson Wednesday

Game notes for Wednesday night’s basketball game between East Carolina and Clemson. Tip-off is schedule for 7:06 pm in Greenville.

-East Carolina is hosting an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent for the time in almost 40 years Wednesday night as it welcomes the 17th-ranked Clemson Tigers to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

-The Pirates posted their first win over a Division I opponent Sunday with a three-point win over George Mason, 68-65, at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C.

-ECU is looking for its first victory over a ranked opponent since 2002. The Pirates defeated then-No. 9 Marquette, led by Dwayne Wade, at home by three, 74-71. The Pirates have lost eight straight to ranked foes.

-Over the last five games, five different players have led the Pirates in scoring with junior college transfer James Legan leading the way Sunday with a career-high 18 points against George Mason. Someone different has been the team's top scorer in six of seven games this season with sophomore Gabe Blair being the only repeat performer.-

-Despite having over 600 career wins between them, Wednesday's game mark the first meeting between Mack McCarthy and Oliver Purnell as head coaches.

-The game has been declared a "black out." The first 1,500 students in attendance will all receive black t-shirts, while the team will wear black uniforms at home for the first time.
