After guiding Houston to four bowls in his five seasons at the school, Art Briles moving on to Baylor in hopes of pulling the Bears out of the Big 12 basement.
Briles' hiring has been confirmed by a person with direct knowledge of the situation who spoke on condition on anonymity because the formal announcement had not be made.
Briles replaces Guy Morriss, who spent five seasons at Baylor before he was fired the day after the Bears completed their 12th straight losing season with their 12th consecutive Big 12 loss.
Briles is 34-and-28 in five seasons at Houston with only one losing campaign. the Cougars had only two winning seasons in the previous 12 years before his arrival.
A Baylor spokesman says the school has scheduled a news conference for later today to announce the school's new football coach.
