Carolina Panthers quarterback Vinny Testaverde was back on the field Wednesday and is expected to start Sunday against San Francisco. But his backup remains a mystery.
The 44-year-old Testaverde was a late scratch last Sunday after
waking up a day earlier with a stiff back.
Coach John Fox won't say whether David Carr or undrafted rookie Matt Moore would serve as Testaverde's backup.
Carr struggled in last week's loss to New Orleans. The offseason
acquisition completed only 10 of 22 passes for 95 yards and threw two interceptions against the Saints. He was repeatedly booed by the home fans, who started chanting "We Want Moore" late in the first half.
Moore eventually replaced Carr early in the fourth quarter and completed eight of 14 passes for 66 yards with an interception.
