ECU's Kat Norris Named To Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week

East Carolina women's soccer defender Kat Norris continued to earn recognition for her work in leading the Pirates to back-to-back shutouts over the weekend. A day after receiving Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors, Norris was named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week Tuesday. Soccer Buzz is the exclusive collegiate publication for women's soccer.

Norris’ selection to the prestigious team was the first for the two-time All-Conference USA defender, and just the third honor in women’s soccer history at ECU. Norris was also honored earlier this season as she was named to the preseason All-CUSA team.

Norris led the Pirates to their ninth and 10th shutout of the season, respectively, with a 3-0 win over Houston Friday and 1-0 victory against Rice on Sunday. The senior's defense held the Owls to just one shot on goal. ECU has only allowed five goals all season.

"Kat has been playing the whole season at a very high level,” head coach Rob Donnenwirth said. “She reads the game extremely well. This combined with her speed and tenacity have made her one of the top defenders in C-USA."

The Pirates return to action this weekend as the team travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. and El Paso, Texas for match-ups against Colorado College and UTEP. Friday’s contest against the Tigers is slated for 6:00 p.m.
