The Washington Redskins dodged a couple of
bullets in a sloppy 21-19 victory over visiting Arizona. Cardinals
kicker Neil Rackers missed a 55-yard field goal attempt with two
seconds left on the clock. That came after Arizona missed a
two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game and then
recovered an on-side kick.
Kurt Warner started for the Cards despite a torn elbow ligament
in his non-throwing arm that made it awkward to hand the ball off.
And after driving his team from their 29 to Washington's 1-yard
line, Warner made way for Tim Rattay (rah-TAY') who threw a
touchdown pass to Leonard Pope to pull his team within two with 21
seconds to play.
Warner finished 27-of-41 for 282 yards with two touchdowns and
two interceptions, one of which was returned 27 yards for a
touchdown by London Fletcher.
The two teams combined for 15 penalties, a blocked punt and a
blocked extra point attempt.
Washington, which managed only 160 yards of offense, improves to
4-and-2 while Arizona dips to 3-and-4.
