Carolina coach John Fox is noncommittal
as to who will be the starting quarterback for the Panthers' next
game. They have a bye before taking on Indianapolis a week from
Fox signaled that it's an open competition between David Carr
and Vinny Testaverde.
Carr was acquired in the offseason after five years as a starter
in Houston. The 43-year-old Testaverde was signed last week and
ended up leading the club to a 25-10 win over Arizona after Carr
was unable to play due to a bad back.
Carr took over under center after number-one signal-caller Jake
Delhomme suffered what turned out to be a season-ending
elbow injury in Week 3. He lost his first start against Tampa Bay,
but led the Panthers to a win over the Saints a week later despite
twisting his back on a sack in the first half.
Testaverde completed 20 of 33 passes for 206 yards against the
Texans, including a go-ahead 65-yard touchdown pass to Steve Smith
in the fourth quarter.
