Carolina Panthers quarterback David Carr
missed practice for a second straight day due to a back injury
suffered in last week's victory at New Orleans. That increases the
chances 43-year-old Vinny Testaverde could
start on Sunday at Arizona.
Testaverde, who signed yesterday, went through his second
practice with the Panthers today, scrambling to learn the offense
and get acclimated with top receiver Steve Smith.
The Panthers' troubles under center began three weeks ago when
number-one QB Jake Delhomme suffered what turned out to
be a season-ending elbow injury. That left offseason acquisition
Carr and undrafted rookie Matt Moore, who was signed a little more
than a month ago, as the only quarterbacks on their roster.
Testaverde, who turns 44 next month and was cut by New England
in the preseason, is playing his 21st season in the NFL.
