The Jones Senior Trojans (10-4) will take on the Murphy Bulldogs (11-4) tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh.
Jones Senior is one of six teams making its first trip to the state finals. The Trojans are led by second year head coach John Davis who is also making his first state championship appearance.
Murphy is a perennial powerhouse in 1A high school football. The Bulldogs are making its eighth state title game appearance despite starting the year 0-3. The Bulldogs have won five state championships.
Murphy is in the state finals for a second consecutive year. The Bulldogs lost to Wallace-Rose Hill last year 22-21.
Jones Senior was 3-9 last season falling in the first round of the playoffs.
