For most teams, the high school football season returns to it's regular night tonight and we will as well with our 'Game of the Week' broadcast schedule on 103.7 WTIB. Our regional game will be South Central taking on Rose for the seventh time. The Rampants have won the previous six meetings, most of them have not even been close. Coverage with our countdown to kick off begins at 7 p.m. from Percy-Daniels Stadium.

Rose comes in with an even ledger at 1-1 after escaping narrowly at Conley last Thursday, 28-27 when the Vikings' 2-point pass attempt on the PAT failed. There's a budding quarterback controversy at Rose between last week's starter Cole Vonlehmden and Reggie Green, who finished last week's game. Vonlehmden was 5-for-9 through the air last week, but threw two picks. Green's second half at the controls wasn't the prettiest, but he got things done.

Injuries - particularly knee injuries - have been a storyline in Rose's season thus far. Rose will be without their leading receiver Josh Boyd tonight, as he injured his knee at Conley last week. That makes four Rampant starters who have missed time with a knee injury this season. Look for Coach Todd Lipe to involved Wake Forest-bound tight end Anthony Rook in the offense this week, he has just two catches this season.

Running back T.J. Tate had a breakout game of 217 yards and two long touchdown runs behind a patchwork offensive line versus Conley. How the junior running back will perform against a strong defense for the Falcons tonight will an area to keep an eye on tonight.

As for South Central, they have a chance to make history tonight. The Falcons have never started a season 3-0 and can if they spring a first-ever win over the Rampants tonight on the road. Rose beat SC last season 40-13.

Former Tulane standout Tim Carter took over for Walt Davis, who suddenly resigned as the program's head coach in July. The 31 year old Carter who was a graduate assistant at East Carolina previously has infused some youthful energy in the Falcon program.

After just 64 yards in the first half last week against Farmville Central, the Falcons exploded for 28 unanswered points in the second half and nearly 200 yards of total offense in their triple option attack. Sophomore quarterback, Nick King, got things going in the second half with a touchdown pass to Jertaves Jenkins, a fellow sophomore. After getting the ball back, freshman fullback Shawn Furlow took it to the house from three yards out to put South Central up 14-0 after three quarters.

In the trenches, the Falcons are especially strong, particularly on defense. Nose guard Greg Johnson is a load at 6-foot-3, 256 lbs and can create havoc. Daryl Taylor is 6-foot-4, 216 lbs at defensive end for the Falcons and is coming off an 11 tackle, 2 1/2 sack game against the Jaguars. Taylor is one of several South Central kids getting looks from D-I schools.

I hope you'll join Coach Ken Whitehurst and me as we kick off the Labor Day weekend on 103.7 WTIB with the 'Game of the Week' as South Central takes on Rose beginning at 7 p.m.
