Creswell Poised For Strong Finish After Crushing Hatteras, 50-0

The Creswell Tigers have captured at least a share of the Tideland
Conference Crown and clearly showed who was in charge of the Tideland with a 50-0 crushing of the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes. The Tigers won the first contest between the two schools easily 53-0, the second meeting if it were a book would read much the same.

The Tiger offense would come out of the gate slow as turnovers would plague the Tigers in the first quarter as they appeared to shake off the lag that the multiple hour bus trip would put on them. But once
their legs were stretched and the jitters were gone the Tiger rushing
attack would explode. Creswell's Jaquan Bryant would lead all rushers on the night with a whopping 157 yards on 8 carries and find the end zone 3 times. The Tiger rushing attack would rack up 319 yards on 21 carries and dominate the Hurricane defense all night long.

Tiger rushers Timelle Sawyer and Gary Blount would each add their own impressive totals to the stat column. Sawyer would rush for 45 yards on 11 carries and Blout would rush for an impressive 111 yards on 2 carries. Each would find the end zone multiple times on the night.

Quarterback Davonte Phelps would lead the Tiger passing attack through the air going a perfect 4-4 for 44 yards and a score.
The Tiger runners would find a welcome rest this week as they would
only have to play one way as Coach Wayne Rodgers would split the team in to two squads most of the night.

Rodgers said on the experiment "The two squad system really worked
well for us tonight. It has been a long time here at Creswell since we
have been able to do something like this with such a small squad. We
wanted to really get some of our younger guys some experience and give some of our starters some rest. With only 24 players everyone has to contribute and the guys really did that tonight. We knew that we would start slow tonight but we felt that when the time came our guys would respond and they did. I am very proud of all my players and now we just have to keep up that momentum the rest of the season. It is not every day that you have a group of athletes like we have this year at such a small school so we are going to do our best and see where the chips fall."

The Tiger offense would not be the only star of the night though. The
Tigers would hold the Hurricanes to less than 100 yards of total
offense and pitch their 3rd shut out of the season. The Tigers would
be lead by stand out Senior tackle Timothy Roughton who would shut down the Hurricanes rushers all night and rack up 17 tackles with 5 of
those for a loss. Five other Tigers would rack up double digit
tackles. They were Taquan Meyers with 13, Tommy Cherry with 11, Andrew McNair with 11, Anthony Cabbarrus with 11, and Shaton Basnight with 11. Overall the Tigers would rack up 436 total yards on the night and show just why they belong as the #8 team in the area as rated on numerous news outlets. The Tigers will look to wrap up the conference crown this Friday as they take on the Jamesville Bullets on Senior Night. The game is slated for 7:30pm at Tiger field in Creswell.
