South Central coach Walt Davis made the call to go for two in double overtime. It didn't work so the Falcons lost to New Bern in a heartbreaker for the second year in a row.
The Bears got the scoring started with a 27-yard strike from Tyrell Lindsey to Josh Moore in the first. South Central answered in the second with the first of three Montrell McCotter touchdown runs It was a big night for McCotter as he notched 172 yards on the night.
New Bern's final touchdown in regulation was a 32-yard Mike Banks run in the third. McCotter scored with 4:30 left in the fourth and South Central kicker Michael Anderson tied the score and the game headed into overtime.
This was the Bears fourth win of the season while South Central dropped to 3-4 and has to win a game in the Coastal Conference. Next week New Bern faces the undefeated West Craven Eagles while West Carteret heads to Winterville to take on the Falcons.
