Pirates Keep Winning Streak Alive

The Pirates softball team looked to extend its winning streak to five games with a victory over Southern Miss in a double header Saturday.

The Golden Eagles had the first scoring threat with two outs in the top of the second inning.

ECU would escape the inning and open up the scoring with Jasmine Robbins doubling to left center, driving in Priscilla Velasquez for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

Southern Miss would come right back and tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third with a two-out solo home run from Britney Dinelt.

The Pirates would try to take the lead again with a two-out threat of their own in the bottom of the inning, but could not convert.

Alex Fieldhouse would put the Pirates ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning with her own two-out solo home run to left.

The home run would be all ECU needed to take the first game by a final Score of 2 -1.

On to the second game.

ECU would strike first after a bases loaded walk scored Jordan Lewis in the 2nd.

The Pirates would add to their lead in bottom of the fourth with Jasmine Robbins singling through the left side to drive in the sophomore pinch runner Abby Wynne.

Southern Miss would threaten in the top of the fifth but a runner's interference call would help the Pirates end the inning with no runs against them.

The Golden Eagles had another opportunity in the top of the sixth and were held off again.

ECU added its last run in the bottom of the sixth.

Priscilla Velasquez scored after a Jasmine Robbins hit and a Southern Miss error.

Southern Miss scored once in the seventh but it would not be enough as the Pirates win by the final score of 3-1.

East Carolina will go for its second Conference USA sweep of the season Sunday at Noon.
