GREENVILLE, N.C. – Head Coach Ruffin McNeill and his staff guided East Carolina through a pair of workouts Wednesday to complete its fall two-a-day schedule at Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex.
The Pirates spent two-and-half hours in full pads during the morning under partly cloudy skies and returned for two hours in the afternoon participating in an extensive walk-through session.
“We treated practice like a regular Tuesday workout, which for us started a mock game week in getting the men ready for what each day will be like,” McNeill said. “I thought we approached it well and we are continuing to expose the team to bits and pieces of our first four opponents. We will continue to work this week in getting ready for game week that starts Sunday night and then our focus will be on North Carolina Central.
“I think our captains and leadership core are doing a great job of not letting anyone forget about our commitment to the team concept and our focus to the vision. When you have a group that believes in those things, they help lead the team and it makes our jobs as coaches easier.”
The morning practice opened with wide receivers focusing on timing routes and the linebackers working on run coverage. The quarterbacks then went through a series of scramble drills with the receivers before 11 minutes of screen work. During the skeleton phase of the workout, the offensive and defensive lines worked on pass rush, which led to the final 22 minutes of team vs. scouts concentrating on third down conversions.
ECU will return to single practices Thursday and Friday morning.
McNeill announced the addition of DL Isaiah King (6-1, 275, Fr., Mount Airy, N.C.) to the Pirates’ 105-man camp roster Wednesday, filling the vacancy created by the injury to linebacker Desi Brown … Single-game, three-game mini packs and season tickets for all ECU homes games are still available to the Pirate Nation and can be purchased by calling the ECU Athletic Ticket Office at 252-737-4500, through the Online Ticket Center, or by visiting the ECU Athletics Ticket Office.
