INDIANAPOLIS --- The East Carolina doubles team of Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller has been selected as one of 32 pairs to compete in the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships after receiving the automatic bid from Conference USA.
It is the first time that an ECU doubles team has reached the NCAA Championships.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., following the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 16-21. The University of Illinois, Champaign will serve as host.
Opponents and match times will be announced at a later date.
Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championships are awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams. ECU will be the lone Conference USA representative at the championships.
Roller and Vliegen posted a record of 17-0 at the No. 1 position this season. Sixteen of their victories were by multiple sets, highlighted by an 8-4 victory over the 20th-ranked doubles team of Chris Cooprider and Costa Blank of UNC Wilmington.
