East Carolina picked up a 7-5 win in a wild, 15-inning contest against Southern Miss Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates pushed across a run in the top of the 9th inning to tie the game at four. That was still the score in the 14th inning when both teams scored to make it 5-5.
East Carolina put up two in the top of the 15th and pitcher Drew Reynolds was able to close the door for good in the bottom part of the frame to seal the Pirate win.
The two teams will play game two of the doubleheader Saturday night.
