ECU Softball Drops Two To Central Florida

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Freshman Casey Alcorn had two hits to lead the offensive attack, but East Carolina’s softball team (21-29, 11-11 C-USA) lost its second straight game to UCF on Saturday by a 3-0 margin. The Pirates were limited to one run in taking a pair of losses to the Knights between the two contests. After winning seven consecutive conference games, East Carolina has now dropped four-straight league games over the last two weeks

Sophomore Courtney Smith (5-14) allowed all three runs on seven hits in falling for the second time on the day. She fanned three and walked one. Mackenzie Audas (13-16) limited the Pirates to just two hits, three walks and struck out 10 in the victory.

In addition to her two hits, Alcorn also drew a walk in the game for ECU.

The Pirates again fell behind early in the contest with UCF plating a first-inning tally. Lauren Aldridge singled and stole second to move into scoring position. She scored on Farrah Sullivan’s single up the middle.

Alcorn picked up ECU’s first hit of the contest with her tricky hopper to short with one-out in the second, but she would move no farther with a strikeout and foul out ending the frame.

For the second-straight game the Knights added on with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Mariah Garcia reached on a fielder’s choice and scored ahead of Kalyn Cenal’s second home run of the day.

ECU put the lead-off runner on base in the fifth with Casey Alcorn drawing a walk, but the next three all struck out swinging to end the potential threat before it really got going.

The Pirates drew a pair of two out walks in the sixth inning as juniors Kristi Oshiro and Alex Fieldhouse both reached base. The next ECU batter was retired on a pop out to keep the East Carolina offense scoreless.

The Pirates wrap up the regular season and the series with Senior Day on Sunday at noon. ECU will honor its two seniors with pre-game ceremony for Kai Clark and Cicely Lopez.
