GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina junior Shane Carden has been named Co-Conference USA Offensive Player-of-the-Week after leading the Pirates to a 42-28 non-conference victory over ACC member NC State. This is Carden’s fourth weekly honor this season and seventh of his career.
Carden, who accounted for five of ECU's six touchdowns, completed 23-of-30 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He pushed his season total to 32 passing scores after throwing TD strikes of three, five and 25 yards, while adding a pair on the ground (three and one-yard), the latter extending ECU's lead to 28-7 midway through the third quarter.
The Houston, Texas native recorded his 14th career multi-TD game and 17th with 250 or more passing yards. Fifteen of Carden's 23 completions went for 10 or more yards and he has thrown 19 TDs and just two interceptions in his last five contests. He currently leads all FBS quarterbacks in completion percentage (72.8) and points responsible for (246).
In addition to his league honor, the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award semi-finalist was one of eight QBs named Manning Award Stars-of-the-Week for his performance, marking the third time this year on the weekly list.
The Pirates (9-2, 6-1) will close out the regular season at Marshall (8-3, 6-1) with the East Division title and a spot in the 2013 C-USA Football Championship Game on the line. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 noon (EST) on Friday, Nov. 29 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
