IRVING, Texas - For the second time in three weeks, East Carolina redshirt sophomore Toni Paisley was named the Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Week, according to an announcement Monday by league officials. Paisley picked up two wins last weekend as she led the Pirates to triumphs over Florida State and Indiana while at the Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla. The weekly honor is the third of Paisley's career and second of 2009.
Against the Seminoles, Paisley allowed just one run on three hits and a walk as the Pirates won 2-1. In four of her seven innings of work she sent down FSU in order as her performance allowed East Carolina to collect just its second win in program history over Florida State.
In her second game of the weekend against Indiana, Paisley tied her career high in strikeouts with 15, including nine in the first three innings. Every batter in the IU lineup except one struck out at least once during the contest. The 8-3 win over the Hoosiers also gave ECU its first-ever win against Indiana in series history.
ECU will return to action this weekend in Greenville, hosting the Pirate Classic. East Carolina opens the tournament at 4 p.m. on Friday with a game against Towson. The Pirates will also play a 2 p.m. game on Saturday against Fordham and finish the event at 1 p.m. on Sunday with Delaware.
