Pirates Play Well But Fall Short Against Pack, 87-76

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Brandon Costner had 24 points and 17
rebounds to help North Carolina State beat East Carolina 87-76 on
Wednesday night.

Ben McCauley added 20 points for the Wolfpack (6-1), who used
Javi Gonzalez's running heave from halfcourt just before halftime
to start a game-turning 18-2 spurt. N.C. State shot 52 percent for
the game and led by as many as 16 points in the second half before
holding off a late rally to avenge last year's road loss.

Brock Young scored 25 points to lead the Pirates (8-2), who got
as close as four points in the final 3 minutes but couldn't
complete the comeback.

East Carolina upset N.C. State 75-69 last year in Greenville,
beating the Wolfpack for the first time in 18 meetings and earning
its first win in 58 tries against an Atlantic Coast Conference
program.

Justin, I am a big ECU fan, but I am also realistic, fans with your mouth is what makes us look so bad. Check out your last post man, "We're going to shock the world, when we beat Wake" There you go, way to run that mouth. It does no one any good to talk trash before the game. What happened Justin, was it the Refs this time too?????? Come on man and be realistic!!!

Danny: I am NOT much of a roundball fan! I am a CFB. The point is for you to come and join us on the FB threads. With ALL due respect are you an English major? If NOT your writing, spelling and sentence construction are highly commendable. BTW did you recognize the biggest whiner(s)? A couple of them are usual suspects of the FB threads! Thanks

Come on people!!! I am an ECU fan, went to the game as well. Please stop the dang whining about the refs. This makes us look stupid. If you watched or listened to the game and understood basketball just a tiny bit, you would realize that the fouls were called pretty good. ECU played an outside perimeter game all night throwing up 3 after 3. They did not post up the big men down low, so naturally there are not going to be many fouls called when most of the action takes place outside of the lane. N.C. State pounded the ball down low to the big men who got triple and double teamed, so they created a lot more foul opportunities. It's pretty dang simple, but all of you are doing nothing but whining about it, all that does is make us look bad as fans. Plus about 8-9 of the 26 fouls called were at the end of the game when we were fouling on purpose. I agree the elbow was missed, but that didn't cost the game. Be proud of the effort the guy gave and stop the dang whining like children!

continuing, an awesome half court shot before the half (that was a cool shot) but NEVER could've or should've even been shot had the game clock not stopped after an ecu layup with about 2 seconds to go. the ref's looked at the tape for many minutes and STILL allowed the shot even though it couldn't have gotten off in time CLEARLY had the stop kept running as it should've. state's gonzales elbows our guard brock here that the story's talkin about in the mouth and takes out multiple teeth.. hmm.. KNOCKS OUT TEETH.. how in the world can a foul not be called?? but of course, lastly, 3 of ECU's players foul out and one more is left having to play with 4 fouls, while state has ONE player with 3 fouls.. ONE player.. the simple fact is the game was unfairly officiated in favor of state. its so obvious its sickening.. open your eyes and stop thinking they're so good because they're just as terrible as they've always been and will continue to be.
